Amitabh Kant appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog, a body that has replaced Planning Commission with Prime minster as Chairman. He will will have the tenure of two years. He is a 1980 batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre.

 Amitabh Kant was serving as the Secretary in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. He also served as the CEO of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation.
