1978-ൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ 'ഉത്രാടരാത്രി' മുതൽ 2015-ൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ 'ഞാൻ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്യും' വരെയുള്ള 29 ചിത്രങ്ങളാണ്‌ ബാലചന്ദ്രമേനോൻ സ്വന്തമായി തിരക്കഥയെഴുതി സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത്‌ അഭിനയിച്ചത്‌.


 He won the National Film Award for Best Actor in the 1998 film Samaantharangal, which was also directed by him.
