ISRO has launched a record 20 satellites in single mission on 22nd June 2016 from Satish Dhawan Space centre in Sriharikota.
PSCV-C34 launches the 727.5 kg Cartosat-2 series satellite for earth observation and 19 co-passenger satellites together weighing about 560 kg at lift–off into a 505 km polar Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO).
They include two student satellites from Indian universities and 17 of four foreign countries.
13 satellites are of U.S.A among which one satellite is by Google.
2 satellites are by Canada and one each by Germany and Indonesia.
The primary satellite to be carried by PSLV C-34 rocket is similar to Cartosat-2, 2A and 2B satellites launched earlier.
Other Indian satellites are:
- Sathyabamasat developed from Sathyabama University, Chennai which aims to collect data on green house gases.
- Swayam developed by College of Engineering, Pune to provide point to point messaging services to the HAM (amateur radio) community.
Satish Dhawan Space Centre Director P. Kunhikrishnan said it was a "major milestone" for ISRO to launch 20 satellites in a single mission.
