The probe was built by Rifath Sharook, an 18 year old student from Pallapatti, Tamil Nadu, India, as a part of a competition, named as - ‘Cubes in Space’. This contest was jointly organised by NASA and another organisation ‘I Doodle Learning’ which is a global education company. This will be the first time when a space probe, that was made by an Indian student will be launched by NASA.<br />
<br />
The weight of the probe is just 64 grams and it is fitted in a 4 centimeters cube. The probe is composed of 3-D printed reinforced carbon fibre polymer. Part of the components were supplied from India and other parts from abroad. The probe will be launched by a sub-orbital spaceflight. The expected time span of the mission (post flight) is 240 minutes. The tiny probe will be operated only for 12 minutes to demonstrate the performance of 3-D printed carbon fibre in a micro-gravity environment of space.<br />

India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, in its thirty ninth flight (PSLV-C37), launched the 714 kg Cartosat-2 series satellite for earth observation and 103 co-passenger satellites together weighing about 664 kg at lift-off into a 505 km polar Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO). </div>

The co-passenger satellites comprise 101 nano satellites, one each from Israel, Kazakhstan, The Netherlands, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and 96 from United States of America (USA), as well as two Nano satellites from India. The total weight of all the satellites carried onboard PSLV-C37 is about 1378 kg.</div>

PSLV-C37 also carries two ISRO Nano satellites (INS-1A and INS-1B), as co-passenger satellites. These two satellites carry a total of four different payloads from Space Applications Centre (SAC) and Laboratory for Electro Optics Systems (LEOS) of ISRO for conducting various experiments.</div>

INSAT-3DR has a lift-off mass of 2211 kg, which includes about 1255 kg of propellant. The propellant carried by INSAT-3DR is mainly required to raise the satellite from the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) to its final Geostationary Orbit and to maintain the satellite in its orbital slot during its life. The satellite has a solar array generating 1700 Watts of power.</div>

 PSCV-C34 launches the 727.5 kg Cartosat-2 series satellite for earth observation and 19 co-passenger satellites together weighing about 560 kg at lift–off into a 505 km polar Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO).</div>

They include two student satellites from Indian universities and 17 of four foreign countries.<br />
13 satellites are of U.S.A among which one satellite is by Google.<br />
2 satellites are by Canada and one each by Germany and Indonesia.<br />

The primary satellite to be carried by PSLV C-34 rocket is similar to Cartosat-2, 2A and 2B satellites launched earlier.<br />
Other Indian satellites are:<br />

<li>Sathyabamasat  developed from  Sathyabama University, Chennai which aims to collect data on green house gases.</li>
<li>Swayam  developed by College of Engineering, Pune to provide point to point messaging services to the HAM (amateur radio) community.</li>
</ul>
The total weight of all the 20 satellites carried onboard PSLV-C34 is about 1288 kg.<br />

Satish Dhawan Space Centre Director P. Kunhikrishnan said it was a "major milestone" for ISRO to launch 20 satellites in a single mission.<br />

GIRI consists of a rectangular antenna array of 160 two-element Yagi-antenna arranged in a 20x8 matrix, twenty transmitter units providing a maximum peak power of 160 kW, six digital receivers including data processing systems, a radar controller, and a host computer.<br />

National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL) at Gadanki, an autonomous research institute of Department of Space, is engaged in fundamental and applied research in the field of Atmospheric Sciences located at Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.<br />
<br />
GIRI has been designed with the following objectives:<br />
<br />
-         to carry out unattended observations towards studying the forcing from the sun (e.g., variation in solar flux, solar flare, magnetic storm) and from the underneath atmosphere (e.g., waves generated by weather phenomena) on the ionospheric irregularities<br />
<br />
-         to steer the radar beam on a pulse-to-pulse basis up to ±50o in the east-west plane providing spatial map of ionospheric irregularities covering about 10o longitude belt around Gadanki, to study evolution of irregularities<br />
<br />
-         to measure Doppler velocity unambiguously by taking advantage of the wavelength (10 m) and also by double-pulse technique to study polarisation processes and supersonic plasma flow<br />
<br />
-         to measure Doppler spectrum of overspread targets with a-periodic pulsing scheme to study different regimes of electrostatic turbulence<br />
<br />
-         to measure zonal drift of irregularities using interferometry technique<br />
<br />
-         to perform in-beam interferometric imaging of small scale structures and their dynamics.</div>

William Campbell and Satoshi Omura developed a new drug to treat river blindness and lymphatic filariasis. Youyou Tu discovered a drug that significantly reduces death rates from malaria.<br />
