Vice President Hamid Ansari represented India in 17th NAM(Non-Aligned Movement) Summit 2016 held in Margarita island in Venezuala.
Narendra Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to not attend the NAM summit after 1979.
The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is an international organization (group of countries) who do not want to be officially aligned (friends) with or against any major power bloc (group of countries).
The group was started in Belgrade in 1961.
