Mohiniyattom exponent Bharati Shivaji selected for Nishagandhi Puraskaram 2016 of Tourism Dept. of Kerala.
Bharati Shivaji is an Indian classical dancer of Mohiniyattom,choreographer and author, known for her contributions to the art form by way of performance, research and propagation.
She is the founder of Center for Mohiniyattam, a dance academy promoting Mohiniyattom at New Delhi.
She is also co-author of two books- 'Art of Mohiniyattom' and 'Mohiniyattom'.
Nishagandhi Puraskaram is an annual award instituted by the Tourism Department of Kerala in India to honour personalities in the fields of music and dance.
The award comprises a purse of 1,50,000 Indian Rupees , a citation, and a statuette.
It is presented annually on behalf of the Nishagandhi Dance and Music Festival, a cultural programme organized by the Tourism Department of Kerala every year.
