British number theorist Andrew Wiles Awarded Prestigious Abel Prize 2016.
The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters awarded the Abel Prize to Andrew Wiles for his stunning proof of Fermat’s Last Theorem by way of the modularity conjecture for semistable elliptic curves, opening a new era in number theory.
Wiles has been a Member in the School of Mathematics on several occasions and is also a former IAS Trustee.
