India's javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra created a new junior world record to win a gold medal with a stunning effort of 86.48m at the IAAF World Under-20 Championships 2016 held in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Previous record was 84.69m which was in the name of Latvian javelin thrower Zigismunds Sirmais made in 2011.

By this perfomance Neeraj becomes first Indian to create a world record and Gold medal in an International Athletics Event.

In the 2000 World Under-20 Championships Seema Punia had won a gold in women’s discus throw but she was stripped of the medal after testing positive for a banned substance.
